It struck me when I wrote the post below that I post my weather data to a number of places which may not be obvious, hence the list below;
Sangwell.com website - animated web page updated every 3 seconds 24×7
Davis weatherlink website - weather conditions and summary updated every 60 seconds 24×7
Weather Underground website - weather conditions updated every 5 minutes 24×7. This is also the website which creates the realtime weather box to the left.
One of the really nice things about the Weather Underground site is the realtime animated map you’ll see on the right-hand side of the page. If you click on this and zoom out you’ll see the other weather stations repoting their conditions overlayed. You can drag the map around to find weather stations near you.
If you’re running Windows Vista/Win7, there is a really nice sidebar gadget you can download to see the weather conditions from my station. Get it from here, when installed click on the spanner on the right and change the upate frequency to 15 seconds and click OK. Clicking on Sangwell.com at the top of the gadget will give you a nice summary.
On Sunday I was back up on the roof fitting a solar sensor on my Davis Instruments Vantage Pro2 weather station.
The sensor records how much solar radiation is reaching earth (well, specifically its recording how much is reaching my roof) in watts per square meter.
The installation went pretty smoothly as did changing the configuration of Weather Display which runs on a PC permanently recording weather conditions every minute and updating the various weather websites as frequently as every three seconds.
Adding the sensor instrument to my animated web page was a different story though: taking about 3 hours to move everything around to get the new sensor and graph onto the page. However, I think it was worth it – you can now see graphs of solar, temperature, wind speed and barometer for the last 24hrs along with all the other sensors.
